Interview (or invite to class) a director of an early childhood center that has a board of directors. Ask the following questions, and then compare responses with members of your class:
a. How are members chosen?
b. What type of orientation is provided for new board members?
c. How long is a member’s term?
d. What are the duties of board members?
e. How often does the board meet?
f. Are minutes of each meeting kept?
g. What is the relationship between the director and the board?
h. Is the director a voting member of the board? i. What challenges have you experienced working with a board?
j. If the center does not have a board, who carries out the responsibilities that would have been met by the board?
