FR1. In class, we discussed the differences between a “supply chain” and a “value chain.”

(15pts) Provide an explanation of the difference, along with what activities are included in each.  

(15 pts) How might strategic sourcing (i.e. the sourcing of capabilities) play a role in the value chain/extended value chain? When does it make sense to outsource these capabilities?

FR2. Products naturally start off as innovative and over time become functional. As a result, businesses change their sourcing to meet the changes in the product’s lifecycle. Explain how the following might change as a result of the product moving from innovative to functional.
