Tourism destinations, which encompass multiple hospitality products, are highly susceptible to crises and disasters. While these negative events have the ability to weaken or destroy a competitive advantage of tourism destinations, proper planning reduces the likelihood of occurrence and severity of crises.
In this assessment, you are required to conduct a critical analysis of a designated tourism destination and based on this analysis.

A starting point for your analysis will be a provided case study, which will introduce the destination and outline some of the key crises that have affected it. You will then need to conduct additional research about that destination to demonstrate your knowledge about the place and its tourism and hospitality industry, including their susceptibility to crises and disasters.

- Brief introduction describing the destination and the importance of tourism and hospitality to that place (approximately 200 words);
- Destination ‘pull’ factors – Discussion about specific ‘pull’ factors that draw tourists to the destination. This section aims to showcase the assets of the locality and their importance to overall competitiveness of the destination (approximately 500 words)
- Crises and their impact on ‘pull’ factors – A table showing specific crises that affected the destination since the beginning of the new millennium, and their impact on the identified by you (under point 2) ‘pull’ factors. (approximately 500 words)
- Key vulnerabilities – Brief summary about the impact of crises on the destination – e.g. specific vulnerabilities that were found at the destination and which must be addressed in future planning (approximately 200 words)

- Structure This assignment is a report and must follow the report structure – e.g. abstract/executive summary, table of contents and appendices (optional) should be included. - Use of theory The report must incorporate and effectively apply the relevant theory covered in the workshops, textbook, eReader, and your independent research. All key terms used in the report (e.g. ‘pull’ factors, crisis, strategic crisis management) must be correctly defined and accompanied by relevant references.
