You work for a large acute care hospital designated as a level 1 trauma center. Leadership is considering opening an outpatient rehabilitation center for traumatic brain injury patients. The CEO has asked that HIM run a report identifying the number of TBI patients (consider what data will identify these patients) admitted to the facility in the last year, their discharge disposition and length of stay.
Determine the criteria that is needed to run a report that will return all relevant information needed by the CEO and Medical Director to begin the decision-making process. Other than providing the requested data, consider what other roles will HIM play in the decision-making process. Create a document with a checklist of criteria and supporting rationale for each report element along with a brief description (8-10 sentences) of HIM’s role in enterprise wide strategic planning efforts.
