Building on Assessment 1, you are a project manager on a major project, and are now required to prepare the relevant documentation for the project budget, resources and procurement. Base your responses on current recommended practice as described in the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), contemporary literature and personal research into the industry of the case study project.
The focus is to be on the selection and application of appropriate theory, tools and techniques – not how accurate your budget, resources and procurement strategies are. Read your project case study carefully, which is available on the Assessment page in Canvas.
Include the following three sections:
1. Develop an appropriate budget for the case study project. Include details of all the assumptions and methods you have made in preparing this budget. This section should be approximately 600 words.
2. Estimate the resources required for successful completion of the project. You should identify all the stakeholders and identify potential resourcing organisations that will need careful management. You should also identify the numbers or quantities of the resources needed along with other relevant factors identified in your readings. Identify tools and techniques that might be used here. This section should be approximately 800 words.
3. Finally, estimate the procurement techniques and methods needed to acquire the necessary resources for the successful completion of the project. You should identify the procurement needs and you should also identify all the stakeholders and potential resourcing organizations that will need careful management. While undertaking these tasks, make sure that you also identify the human resources that might be needed here. This section should be approximately 800 words.
As you work through these three tasks, identify any areas where you do not yet have sufficient information and may need to ask further questions from your project sponsor.
A report format is acceptable but must include an explanation of the approaches used throughout the project. Diagrams, charts, tables and illustrations may be used to communicate or describe an approach. These should be supported by a written discussion and not relied upon to tell the story themselves.
Assessment will be based on your discussion of tools and techniques considered and used to develop and manage the budget, the resources and procurement strategies. You should discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each approach considered and support your chosen approach to each component of the case. Make sure you read the Assessment 2 marking criteria carefully before you start your work. Submit your assessment as a Word document of no more than 1800 words.
