1. Please help me to write an answer with 4-5 sentences on the following question and please read these 2 links:
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/26/us/politics/trump-monuments-executive-order.html
On Friday, June 26, 2020, President Trump issued Executive Order on Protecting American Monuments, Memorials, and Statues and Combating Recent Criminal Violence. The Order protects public monuments, memorials, and statues.
The Order further seeks to protect state and local monuments. However, under our system of federalism, defacing a state or local monument would be a violation of state or local law. Therefore, federal law enforcement cannot enforce such a violation of law.
In order for the president to ensure state and local monuments are also protected, he is directing officials to consider holding back funding and grants.
Although the president is well-intended on protecting all monuments, memorials, and statues, do you think the president is overstepping his executive powers by directing officials to consider holding back federal funding and grants? Explain.
2. Please help me to write the responds to 2 following discussions
(2-3) sentences
1. In my opinion, this is not only President Trump’s decision to consider containing federal funding and grants. With all this, they want to stop this violence, as well as punish people with these decisions. But people go against the law, destroy state statuses and other things, and this is not good. What example we give to our children with such actions, the same can somehow be solved with the right path and not with the destroyed ones, that this country will belong to our children in the future. According to the state and presidency, they are only thinking of those people who are protesting and raping the country today, but how about those people who are struggling today in difficult times with this Covid-19 and crisis, what should they do in such a difficult time. I think Government and Trump should think something else what would be good for everyone, that’s my opinion.
2. I believe that the president is overstepping his power by doing this. America’s government was set up in a way that local and state governments would have to govern themselves with influence but not total control from the federal level. By trying to enforce state laws at the federal level he is overstepping this boundary. Regarding the withholding of funding towards states that do not support the policy, it may be unethical but has already happened in America before. States were forced to choose between raising their drinking age or losing highway funding, the same is happening now except with the monument policy. Forcing states to either comply with the policy which may lead to more protests towards the state that went against them or would lead greater protests towards the federal government who are trying to stop them. So in my opinion this policy will only end badly and have the opposite effect but is the president’s power to put in place. Instead of enforcing local laws at a federal level a way that would not overstep boundaries would instead be to get the local and state governments to enforce and pass their own laws.
