All semester, weve been reading and writing about Tim O’Brien’s, The Things They Carried. There have, almost certainly, been many books and films that have used related themes, as a plot device that have been a popular Hollywood trope since the early days of film. Movie selection is The Man Left Behind (2015 USA Version) Look at the links related to doing a comparison/contrast paper and the other related sources, to get the proper background for this type of paper. Your task in this assignment is to select a movie (The Man They Left Behind) review it critically, and document what you see with your impressions of it. You will then select events and ideas from Tim O’Brien’s book that parallel scenes from the film, put the two side-by-side, comparing and contrasting them. Your goal is to highlight the connections and point out the differences.. To do this, you must ask some probing questions of both works: Where do the issues addressed in O’Brien’s book intersect with those in the film? Do the characters in the film bear any resemblance to those in the book? In what ways are the characters and conflicts different? What do you think accounts for this difference? What different techniques do writers and filmmakers use to develop characters, establish setting, introduce and resolve conflict, and evoke emotional responses from readers and reviewers?
