Hi folks, as you know by now, icons are a major element of Byzantine  art.  The word “icon” in the Byzantine sense has a complex, layered  meaning.    For this week’s written response, please read the text in the link below  and select ONE image from the image band at the top of the page:  https://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/icon/hd_icon.htm (Links to an external  site.)  Then, please answer this question:  What makes your selected image an icon?    Your answer should include formal analysis of the image, iconographical  analysis, and some iconological information about the Byzantine Empire.
