This private nursery and others within the same chain have promoted access to the nursery webcam facility as a way for parents to join in their child’s day. The baby-room team has reached an awkward position with one parent. Darren’s mother uses the viewing facility a great deal. She phones several times each day from her offi ce to instruct Darren’s key person that his nap is being allowed to continue for too long, or he is not being given enough attention, compared with other toddlers. At pick-up time this afternoon she comments on the behaviour of another toddler, whom she has watched, and seems to expect to hear an explanation from the practitioner. Another parent, also in the room, comments sharply, ‘Excuse me! My son is none of your business. The point is to watch your own baby.’
