Discuss the significance and impact of civil rights legislation in light of Figure 3.2 (unemployment rates by race/ethnicity) and Figure 3.3 (gender wage differentials) in this chapter. Is progress being made in improving employment equality, based on your observation of trends in these figures, as a result of civil rights legislative policies? If so, where is progress being made? If not, what do you believe should be done (including consideration of dropping these legislative acts) to improve employment equality in the American workforce in future years?
