This term you will be required to select a port from the list below, then prepare a PowerPoint presentation, along with a narration of the slides. Your presentation must be at least 7 slides (but not limited to 7 slides) in length, your narration must last at least 5 minutes in duration. Each slide must have a header.

You must cite and reference your sources (including pictures), as per APA. A total of at least four references will be required. Your resources should be from a scholarly, or reputable sources (Wikipedia is not a scholarly, or reputable source). Your resources should not be dated later than 2015, without prior approval from the instructor.

    • Discuss the location of the port in relationship to the inland cities and businesses that it supports. Point out some of the advantages and challenges that exist with transporting goods between the two areas.
    • What type of inland businesses depend on the port for the business’ success?
    • What type of infrastructure exists to move goods from the port to the inland business?
  • Ship Size & Port Constraints
    • Discuss the types of ships that are serviced in the port you have chosen.
    • Discuss the constraints that exist within the port, as they apply to the size of ship and type of goods carried.
    • What is the capacity of the port (i.e. number of ships serviced per day, number of containers loaded/unloaded/moved per day, etc.
    • What are the constraints for expansion exist?
  • Port Operations
    • Does your port offer off-port-limits? If so, what?
    • Discuss how your port handles berthing management. (port navigation, berthing)
    • What are some of the services offered by your port, during a ship’s visit?
    • Ship operations at the berth/terminal
      • Loading, unloading, bunkering, victualing (replenishing of stores)
      • What kind of handling equipment do they possess, and use?
  • Strategic Alliances, Market Positioning, and Differentiation
    • How does your port market itself to the community, and the rest of the world?
    • What strategic alliances exist, if any? Why have they decided to form an alliance?
    • How does your port differentiate itself from other ports, to make the port more competitive?
  • What are some to the challenges and future plans that exist for your port? Ex.
    • Government regulation
      • Expansion
      • Upgradingequipment
      • Partnering with other ports, logistics entities
  • Conclusion
    • Wrap up your presentation by pointing out the highlights of your port/presentation.

Week 1 Assignment Research and choose your port.

  • On a Word document, tell me what port you have chosen and why you have chosen it.
  • Include at least three references that you have found to support your choice.

Week 2 Assignment:

  • Submit a rough draft of what you have prepared up to the end of week 2. You should have at least 3 to 4 power point slides prepared for review.
  • Include your full list of references (there should be a minimum of four reliable references). References should not be dated beyond 2015, without approval from the instructor.
  • At least 3 slides should have narration included.

Week 3 Assignment:

  • Submit your entire rough draft, along with full narration for review. Critique will be provided for improvements. Make final changes before submitting the final draft in week 4.

Week 4 Assignment:

  • Submit your final draft.
