Jake is a recovering addict who has worked as a licensed addictions counselor in a small town for 8 years. He was sober 10 years, until a relapse a month ago following the sudden death of his mother. Jake is well respected in the local community and at the
treatment center where he works. He has not told anyone (including his sponsor and his NA group) of his relapse with cocaine. He is afraid he will lose his job, his wife, and his reputation if he speaks of his relapse. Many of his former clients attend the same self-help groups he attends.
