Assignment objectives
This is a professional document that maps out the strategy for BIM implementation on a project. On completion of this assignment the student should be able to:
- Understand BIM implementation processes and implications for practice.
- Assign information management principles within BIM for a construction project.
- Create a BIM collaboration and project management execution/implementation strategy.
Assignment brief
This written assessment places you in a role of a Building Information Modelling (BIM) manager on a construction project. Your role is to prepare the BIM implementation plan (or BIM execution/management plan) document to distribute to project team members. This means that this plan must be tailored to the nature of the construction project team.
You should place yourself in the role of a Building Information Modeling (BIM) manager on a construction project (see below about this context). Your task is to prepare the BIM implementation plan document to distribute to the other project team members. Assume the project is a large commercial project and at least 3 built environment disciplines are collaborating (you must clearly identify in the report who the team members are).
For the project context, select a real-life commercial project you’re currently working on as a case study. Be sure to clearly describe the project characteristics and the team involved in the delivery.
A good starting point for this assignment is to look at various template BIM implementation/execution plan. Note, you will not be able to complete your plan to the detail some of these templates require, so remember, you are trying to capture the core elements. Here are a few templates, but you’re not limited to looking at only these. • http://bim.natspec.org/documents/bim-management-plan-template • http://bim.psu.edu/project/resources/ • https://revitall.files.wordpress.com/2014/06/p2-bim-management-plan-aia-ca.pdf
Assignment Task
In no more than 15 pages (including notes, diagrams, tables, figures, footnotes and reference list) please create BIM implementation plan. There is no fixed required structure to the report, but you should reference any BIM implementation plan templates you apply.
Be sure to review the Assignment Checklist before commencing the assignment.
Assignment Checklist
All assignment elements need to be compiled into a cohesive report of no more than 15 pages in length. Think about the general readability of your report. If you show a diagram or table, there should be at least a small explanation of what it shows. If referring to another part of the report, best to use numbered sections to make this easier. Report needs to be properly referenced. Use a standard referencing style, such as APA or Harvard.
