a) Introduction Statement
A physical book is a book that has been printed on paper. On the other hand, an e-book is a book that can be accessed in an online format, and it is designed to be read in handheld devices and computers. The physical and e-book have some similarities and differences.
b) Thesis statement
The e-books and physical books have different layouts, page numbering styles, and convenience.
2. First supporting idea: Layouts
Ø Topic Sentence – The book layout of e-books and physical books have different layouts.
Ø Supporting sentence – Most physical books have static layouts. That is because they are constant, and they do not change (Harvey, 2016). However, e-books have a dynamic layout as it may be changed as they are formatted with re-flowable texts.
3. Second supporting idea: Page numbering technique
Ø Topic Sentence – The differences in the books’ layouts lead to the difference in page numbers.
Ø Supporting sentence – Therefore, the e-books do not use footnotes and endnotes. On the other hand, physical books have static page numbers; thus, they have endnotes and footnotes (Harvey, 2016).
4. Third supporting sentence: Convenience
Ø Topic Sentence – E-books and physical books have different levels of convenience.
Ø Supporting sentence – The e-books and physical books have different inconvenience depending on the situation. For instance, e-books can be carried conveniently to any location as they are stored in handheld devices such as mobile phones (Vanderschantz, 2017). On the other hand, the physical books are cumbersome to carry from place to place; thus, they are not convenient.
5. Conclusion
In a nutshell, there are several similarities and differences between e-books and physical books. E-books are more convenient compared to physical books. They also have a different layout and have different numbering techniques.
