My paper on “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Alan Poe

Instructions below: READ CAREFULLY

Summary: Paper Two: Critical Essay AND continuation of a Single Literary Work (Paper One) You Did for Me.

Length: 8 Full pages of text, plus an MLA Works Cited page MLA Research/documentation: This assignment requires at least 3 sources –1 primary source–the story, poem, or play from our reading assignments that you chose as the base for the paper – AND 2 secondary sources, which would be reviews or scholarly articles about your primary source.

Length a total of least 8 full pages of text, in two sections, as described below. Please attach an MLA-style Works Cited list, which does not count as a text page, to the end of the paper.

Section1: (At least 4 pages) Acritical essay about 1 literary work chosen from our reading assignments (I will be writing this paper on “The Cask of Amontillado” by Poe) this term. The majority of this portion of the assignment should consist of your original analysis of the work. To your opinions and thoughts about your chosen literary work, you will add MLA-documented material from at least 2 secondary sources to support your analysis. For example, your paper could be an analysis of Edgar Allan Poe’s story, “The Cask of Amontillado”. You would then add documented research material supporting your analysis. You could possibly also add some documented material from your research about how unusual Poe’s life must have been for him to write this story. Most of your paper should be your own words and ideas, but you will use documented research material to add depth and details.

Section II: (At least 3 pages) A prequel or sequel to the literary work analyzed in Part I. For example, you could write a prequel that shows what Fortunato did to Montresor to make him angry enough to bury Fortunato alive. This section of the paper should be placed between the final page of Part I and the Works Cited list. This section need not be written in the same style of the original work.

Caution:  Any passages of dialogue or text taken word-for-word from one of your sources must be enclosed in quotation marks.  Each of these quoted passages must have its very own MLA in-text citation.  In addition, any paraphrases, summaries, or ideas taken from your sources but subsequently put into your own words must have their very own MLA in-text citations.  Paraphrases, summaries, or ideas do not need quotation marks, just the in-text citations.  If a paper is plagiarized, it will receive a failing grade.
