Tell me what did the test reveals to you?
Practise active listening for 5 minutes a day with same person at home or at work for one week. Each day journal your experience and reflect on which step of the active listening framework is most difficult (e.g., silencing their internal thoughts, neutral summarizing, asking non-confrontational questions, etc.). Do not tell the person you are listening to that you are active listening for the first three days.
Then inform the person you have been actively listening to on the fourth day. Ask the person to provide feedback for the remaining two days. Ask the person to indicate if they observed any differences in your listening style.
Were you able to cue engagement, acknowledge the speaker’s concerns, refrain from interrupting, summarize accurately, etc.
After you have done this activity please journal you summarized reflections here
