Complete a case study for SHBBSPA003 Provide stone therapy massages
A case study requires you to practice applying your knowledge and you’re thinking skills to a real life situation. This will be an account for a treatment that contains a real or hypothetical situation and includes situations you would encounter in the workplace.
Candidate Instructions:
Step 1: Select six (6) clients, differing in height, weight, age and objective, to provide a stone therapy treatment. These objectives may include but are not limited to:
- Relaxation
- Detoxification
- Increased sleep pattern
- Muscular tension relief
- Stress relief
Step 2: Communicate, complete and obtain:
- Client consultation
- Written consent
- Informed consent providing treatment information on benefits, suitability and potential adverse effects
Step 3: Design and record a treatment plan to provide one, safe and appropriate stone therapy treatment for each client. Each treatment plan will specify the details of:
- client feedback
- contraindications and conditions
- outcomes of previous and current treatment
- massage details and stones used
- post treatment lifestyle and product advice
- products used
- recommended future treatments
- relevant medical history and medication
- treatment duration, areas treated and areas not treated
- treatment objectives
Within the treatment routine, the therapist must demonstrate the following stone therapy techniques:
- maintain temperature of stones to suit each client’s temperature tolerance
- sequence stone therapy routine to maximise benefits for each client
- adapt massage routine to stone therapy and each client needs
- present self, according to organisational policy
- comply with health and hygiene regulations and requirements
Step 4: Photographic evidence such as:
- 1 before photo
- 1 after photo
- Set-up and treatment area presentation
