Site Selection for Health Education Project Introduction When choosing a health promotion project topic, keep in mind the goal and audience to educate them on a relevant issue(s) that affect them or might affect them in the future. This paper will detail the site selection process for my health education promotion project, as well as how and why this topic was chosen and presented to a community audience. Site Selection For this health promotion project, I decided to give a health education presentation to high school students on health risk behaviours. This is aimed for students in 9th grade who will be entering senior high school the following school year. I picked this topic because I believe it is important to prepare kids for the dangerous behaviours they may encounter when they transition to senior high school. Teenagers are, as we all know, exposed to a variety of risks and peer pressure that can lead them to engage in hazardous behaviours. Sexual activity, alcohol and drug addiction, prostitution, smoking, and accidents are examples of these behaviours. All of these activities are harmful because they injure or kill people. I am also the mother of two adolescent children who have had transitions in adjusting to new high school life while also struggling to fit in as they identify with their developmental phases of life. As a nurse, I am happy that this knowledge came naturally to my children. I’m not sure how I would have handled direct teaching to my children because they are uncomfortable addressing issues such as sexual practises, alcohol usage and abuse, and so on. I discovered that some parents struggle to teach their children in these areas, therefore this would assist all teenagers in those grades without discriminating against individuals.
