This project will develop your skills in independent research planning and implementation.
These skills are important for careers within industry or academia (i.e. honours or PhD).
Project design, proposal and report writing are all things you will be faced with in the near
future, and having hands-on experience dealing with them will put you ahead of many other
graduates. It can be a huge shock going from the clearly prescribed assignments and
assessments you commonly get at university, to having to think of a project yourself, or think
of a way to deal with an issue one your own. This assignment is designed to be challenging,
as it will be something you have not had a lot of experience with, but it will help you in the
future. You will be required to research a topic of your own choice, which is consistent with
the course objectives (i.e. applying GIS to solve a potential problem in an area of science).
This is your chance to showcase what you have learnt during the first half of semester but
apply those tools and skills to a topic that interests you or is more directly related to your
degree/ major.
