The purpose of this assignment is to prepare an Environmental Scan for a population-based service plan using a particular geographic catchment. The catchment is defined as a Local Health District (LHD) within New South Wales (NSW). The NSW Ministry of Health (MoH) divides NSW into eight local health districts to cover the Sydney metropolitan region, and seven which cover rural and regional NSW. In addition, two specialist networks focus on children’s and paediatric services. and Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health. A third network operates across the public health services provided by St Vincent’s Hospital, the Sacred Heart Hospice at Darlinghurst and St Joseph’s at Auburn. Students will be advised by their tutors of their specific Local Health District (LHD) and will be allocated to groups of three to four people, on that basis. The groups are to prepare an Environmental Scan which will be presented in a video. Each student will prepare and present sections of the Environmental Scan via video. Zoom software can be used for the recording. The sections of the Environmental Scan need to include: 1) Table of Contents 2) Introduction including topic and relevant issues 3 Policies and plans relevant to the topic, in the external and internal environment 4 Current and projected demographic profile for the selected population (Local Health District) 1 5) Determinants of Health 6) Burden of Disease data for the selected population 7) Relevant morbidity and mortality data 8) Findings of Environmental Scan, including presentation of critical issues to be addressed. Ensure that all data and resources used are from authoritative sources published within the past five years. Length: In groups of 3-4, each student will present a component of the plan in 4-5 minutes, for a total of approxi-mately 15-20 minutes, using the Zoom recording tool available to all students via their @student.westernsydney.edu.au account.
Resources: See lectures and reading list Modules 1-3 on vUWS. There is a Hints Folder on vUWS which details the use of Zoom to create videos.
