You have been hired as an external consultant for a North American syndicated classical music radio network called “Very Classical”. With a representative station in all the major North American cities, this radio network has a total of 740 “DJs”. Despite the fact that the stations play classical music, the network’s mission is to present a modern image, with an emphasis on young musicians and modern recordings. The issue that they would like to see addressed is in their hiring. They find that they hire DJs who appear interested and knowledgeable in the genre of classical music upon hiring, and even for 2-4 years after. However, it seems that eventually, even their best DJs become complacent and stop learning about what is hot and new in the field of classical music. At great expense, the management is planning to implement the following solutions:
1. ongoing education for DJs which involves a speaker traveling to each station and lecturing on the topic of new artists, new recording releases, types of music etc.
2. a new compensation plan which includes bonuses for keeping current in classical music knowledge
3. a program which includes purchasing newly released recordings for DJs home collections
The management would like to know whether any of these approaches would work (none have been implemented yet), and if so, which ones and in which combination, if any. Unlike the usual situation in many organizations, you have free reign over how the study is carried out, as long as you determine if any of their plans are working. Make a brief description to the management regarding what you propose to do, how you are going to do it, what your variables will be, and how will you determine which solution is working. Outline the strengths and weaknesses of your approach
