Your Consulting Team is requested to conduct a comprehensive process modelling project for the
Stock Replenishment Process at ‘The One and Only Curry’ company. You have been provided with
the context above. However, if you believe any information is missing, feel free to make
appropriate assumptions and/or to include references to established standards/frameworks.
Task 1 is about creating a value chain of Stock Replenishment Process and the corresponding
comprehensive process model(s) using BPMN 2.0. The value chain of this process should set an
abstract ‘outline’ for a detailed process model. As for the comprehensive process model(s),
specifically, you need to deliver detailed collaboration diagram that includes different levels of
abstraction such that all key steps in the current Stock Replenishment Process are captured in a
readable manner. This collaboration diagram will be used later in Assignment 2 for process
performance analysis as well as the starting point for a designing appropriate process improvement
recommendations.
Task 2 is concerned with establishing a governance framework in order to facilitate the
management and maintenance of your process models in the future. Specifically, this framework
has two components:
i. a process architecture which provides an overall view of the business processes within
`The One and Only Curry’ and which can be used to position the role of the Stock
Replenishment Process in the context of the company’s other processes, and
ii. a set of modelling conventions adopted in the process models (from Task 1), along with
adequate justifications for their use.
Bonus Marks
Additional marks may be awarded if students apply more advanced BPMN elements that are not
covered in the lectures
OVERVIEW: Working in a team, you are asked to model a Stock Replenishment Process of a
Food and Beverage company as described in the Assignment 1 Scenario document, and:
o Produce a set of interrelated models including a value chain and a multi-layer
collaboration diagram using BPMN
o Produce a governance structure including a process architecture of the company
where you clearly position their Stock Replenishment Process, and a set of modelling
conventions adopted in your models, accompanied by adequate justifications for
their use
o Provide an overview and explanation of all assumptions made, and if any, standards
and/or frameworks referred to, during the completion of this assignment.
OBJECTIVES: This assessment has the following objectives:
1. Elaborate an awareness of the issues concerning the management of business
processes;
2. Identify, model, improve, introduce, and manage processes in a business
organisation;
3. Use BPMN to design business process models for a complex case study;
4. Use a process modelling tool to model business processes;
5. Demonstrate knowledge of syntax and semantics of modelling with a modelling tool;
knowledge of process engineering lifecycles; and skills to undertake process
modelling tasks;
6. Complete modelling-based process engineering tasks independently and within
groups;
7. Appreciate the social and organisational impacts of Process Modelling projects and
effectively communicate this appreciation to stakeholders;
8. Work effectively in team leadership roles in team projects and demonstrate an
awareness of the historical evolution of business process modelling and management
theories.
