Discussion Post Two: Getting Acquainted
No unread replies.No replies.
This is one of the preliminary assignments for the course; if you do not complete both parts of this assignment by the due dates, you will be dropped from the class for inactive participation.
We will have multiple discussion posts throughout the semester. Discussions in Eagle Online are just one place that we demonstrate critical thinking and writing.
Discussions usually involve you making an original post, and then responding to at least two other people by a certain deadline.
Most discussions will be evaluated based on the rubric that follows.
For your post:
Part One: (200+ words due by 11:59pm, Monday, December 16, 2019) Who Are You, and How Do You Write?
For the first part of the assignment, I’d like you to briefly think about two things, one academic and one more personal:
First, share with us some of your reading and writing strategies. Do you have any? Use this part of the post to tell us anything you’d like about your attitudes toward writing at the college level. Here are some questions to get you thinking:
- How do you tackle completing a writing assignment for college? What’s your process? Or, do you have one? Are you an outliner? Procrastinator? Drafter?
- What’s your biggest challenge in writing the academic essay? What kinds of experiences have you had with writing academic essays?
Second, as a way for us to get to know each other, think of completing the sentence, “When I participate in our next class discussion, I’d like everyone to think, ‘Oh, that’s the person who _________________.'” Then briefly explain why you would want us to think of you in that way.
Some of you will have a very straightforward response here; others may have much more to say. Some may want to pick a funny detail, hobby they like, or noteworthy aspect of their personality. Others will want to say several things about themselves. It’s very much up to you.
Post a 200-word minimum response to the Discussion Board by 11:59pm, Monday, December 16, 2019. Please write your preferred name at the end of the post, so we’ll know what to call you. Your username may not reflect how you’d like to be addressed.
Remember that I do NOT want to see abbreviations or text-message language anywhere in these discussion posts. These are class assignments.
