In our discussions this week we will explore job opportunities in international careers, credentials for being hired and candidate characteristics that are necessary for success. Again we will break out into two teams. Team A will find and post current job announcements from at least three different job functions such as finance, marketing, business development, logistics and so on. The positions can be in publically traded companies, small to medium size businesses, non-profits/NGOs and government. Team A members can start by posting a job announcement and giving some background on the company hiring. Then add another, and another. Members from Team B will apply for these positions stating the qualificati ‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍ ons they have (real or imaginary!). Team A acts like a group interviewing multiple candidates at once from Team B. Team A will ask questions of the candidates from Team B not just about their technical skills and professional experience, but also about qualities related to adaptability to new countries and cross cultural competencies. Team B can ask questions about expat compensation, benefits, repatriation and/or opportunities beyond this job assignment as well as the staffing framework (ethnocentric, polycentric and geocentric). This exercise gives us a chance to practice professional behavior, leadership and career building skills. You will need to use your imagination to answer some of the questions.
