As profit dwindles, Ford is said to replace its C.E.O., a new Chief Technical Officer (C.T.O), Marcy Klevorn is named to replace Jim Hackett as he moves into the C.E.O. position. This is an interesting example of technology integrating into the top C-suite positions.
1. For the paper – your team represents an individual who has been hired by CTO Klevorn to strategize the design of the new technology organization. In other words – you are her top Technology Manager. She has first tasked you with preparing a 3 page position document advising as to why the previous technology organization was not able to support and/or drive the business and operational objectives, and what changes (and why) should be made to her new technology organization. She has other advisers who may very well disagree with your perspective so you will need to support your research and site your references. 2. Perspective – Blissful Ignorance: This perspective assumes, while the organizational model was hierarchical under Mr. Fields there were some in the organization that had already started a quiet movement to a new – more integrated organizational model. While those groups have siloed themselves, the bottom line is that those groups are highly efficient and won’t disrupt the entire organization. Making a change to officially accommodate them, or even bring their model into the remainder of the organization would too disruptive and should be avoided. |
