For example, the keyboard I am writing at is clearly an ‘object.’ In a certain sense; according to Plato, there are also ‘objects of knowledge.’
Write an essay which discusses and clarifies how Plato sees the relation between objects – like keyboards, cars, etc. – and ‘objects of knowledge.’ Make sure your essay includes content on why this relation is important to Plato in the first place. Also, organize your essay so that it incorporates one of the relevant Platonic arguments (epistemological, metaphysical, or semantic) that the text treats. The best essays usually incorporate just one of these arguments rather than trying to handle more than one of them; for the purposes of this essay, a solid interpretation of one of these arguments is quite sufficient.
Finally, conclude your essay by discussing the extent to which you agree or disagree with Plato on the objects/objects of knowledge issue (and explain why!)
Option 2: This topic asks you to relate the philosophy of St. Augustine to the life and philosophical approach of Socrates. The first part of your essay should discuss and explain what St. Augustine thinks is wrong with human beings, and also the main elements of what he thinks a good life would consist of. The second part of your essay should make a transition from St. Augustine to Socrates; in this second part, you should describe and explain the extent to which the life of Socrates (which is a decidedly ‘philosophical’ life, of course) concretely exemplified St. Augustine’s ideas on what a good life would consist of. To be sure, while there are points of agreement between St. Augustine’s ideas on the good life and the philosophical life of Socrates, one might also argue that there are important aspects of St. Augustine’s ideas on the good life which are not exemplified by the life of Socrates (or that the philosophical life of Socrates includes certain aspects that very much seem to be part of a good, healthy life, but are not accounted for in St. Augustine’s ideas on the good life) – so, be careful and thorough in your reasoning and explanation! Also, there are indeed different ways to write this essay effectively, so please let me know if you have questions.
Option 3: This option requires you to write a reaction piece to the 2004 film Hotel Rwanda, and over the course of your reaction, you need to apply Aristotle’s moral philosophy (virtue ethics). In order to write this essay, you will have to view Hotel Rwanda (if you cannot find a free version of this movie online, you will have to acquire it by renting it, etc.). If you choose to write on the Hotel Rwanda topic further described below, then you are responsible for acquiring or renting this movie to view it. The topic for your reaction piece is as follows:
