1. Food and water are both well-known vehicles for common source diseases. Explain how soil could act in a similar manner.
2. A number of infectious diseases can readily afflict human populations. Using the newspaper, magazines, or the WWW find a description of a disease outbreak that occurred sometime in the past decade. Once you have found an outbreak (make sure you document your source(s)) analyze it using the following criteria: a. What factors led to the outbreak? b. What public health control measures were taken to stem the outbreak? c. Does the outbreak have the possibility of spreading beyond the region/area/locale in which it is currently located? If so, explain what steps were taken (or should be taken) to prevent the disease from being further disseminated.
