A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a play that was written by William Shakespeare. It is believed to have been written between 1590 and 1596. It portrays the events surrounding the marriage of the Duke of Athens, Theseus, and the Queen of the Amazons, Hippolyta. These include the adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a group of amateur actors, who are manipulated by the fairies, who inhabit the forest in which most of the play is set. The play is one of Shakespeare’s most popular works for the stage and is widely performed across the world.
Please respond to one of the follow questions in a 5 paragraph essay
1.) In a well developed essay analyze the difficulty of love. Lysander comments, “The course of true love never did run smooth,” articulating one of A Midsummer Night’s Dream’s most important themes—that of the difficulty of love (I.i.134).
2.) Though most of the conflict in the play stems from the troubles of romance, and though the play involves a number of romantic elements, it is not truly a love story; it distances the audience from the emotions of the characters in order to poke fun at the torments and afflictions that those in love suffer. In a well developed essay analyze the use of magic in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The fairies’ magic, which brings about many of the most ridicules and strange events in the play, is another element central to the fantastic atmosphere of A Midsummer Night’s Dreams
