“Here, we take Emirates Airlines as our problem company. It is an airline in Dubai. It is owned by the government of Dubai. It is largest airline in the Middle East. It has around 3300 flights in operation per week. The major hub of these flights is Dubai International Airport. The airlines fly in 148 cities and 78 countries. They also take care of the cargo activities. In today’s time the world’s largest international air carrier is Emirates. It is known to be the seventh biggest airline in terms of revenue generation. It is also known as the biggest airline in the Middle East area in terms of passengers carried i.e. its fleet capacity. It is ranked fourth in the world in its fleet capacity i.e. carrying international passengers.

Problem the company is facing is cancellation of the flights which is declining the sales of the company.

Lean tool which the company uses is Six Sigma. “Lean Six Sigma is a fact-based, data-driven philosophy of improvement that values defect prevention over defect detection. It drives customer satisfaction and bottom-line results by reducing variation, waste, and cycle time, while promoting the use of work standardization and flow, thereby creating a competitive advantage. It applies anywhere variation and waste exist, and every employee should be involved”.(Kubaik and Benbow, 2009).

The primary objective of Six Sigma is the functioning of a measurement-based scheme that focuses primarily on process improvement and difference reduction via the application of a Six Sigma improvement project.

Application of the tool: This is achieved through the use of two Six Sigma sub-techniques namely: DMADV and DMAIC. The Six Sigma DMADV method (define, measure, analyze, design, verify) is an improvement method used for developing a new process or a new product at Six Sigma quality standard. The Six Sigma DMAIC technique (define, measure, analyze, improve, control) is a development system for current processes falling underneath specification and is now looking towards incremental development. The logic behind the DMAIC method as well as the dexterity that lean thinking as well as the tools brought has helped the company in enhancing their problem solving approach as well as the speed of addressing some of the major growth challenges.
