The characteristics of a leader and a manager may be different in various ways but they are connected in that a good manager should be a good leader in order to ensure that all the organization’s goals are achieved. A leader and a manager are similar in that they both deal with directing people. However, a leader is more to having people follow his steps, unlike a manager who commands a group of people in an organization. Leadership is all about making people understand the organization’s visions and having them to help in achieving them willingly. Management involves administering and ensuring that the organization’s operations are running as they should (Malewska, & Sajdak, 2014). A good leader should, therefore, be able to communicate effectively with the people, he or she should be honest and practice integrity should have a vision, have an ability to challenge the team and should be able to inspire them and make sure that they get the big picture of the goals. On the other hand, a good manager should be able to direct people, execute a vision, manage processes, and focus on people and their needs.
Considering my current position, I would like to adopt and develop my communication skills. Communication is very essential as a leader because it determines how a leader reaches out to its team. As a leader, I need to be a good listener and always pay attention to any non-verbal communication. I also need to be direct and clear when speaking. Under another score, I would like to develop is being honest. A team would work well if it trusts its leader. Therefore, this will make my leadership easier. Both communication skills and honesty are paramount in achieving an organization’s goals because a leader communicates all the required information and people can trust the leader thus making the team execute their tasks (Warrick, 2017). Moreover, the two characteristics suppose the Saudi Vision 2030 in that all the goals can be communicated to all the stakeholders effectively while honesty ensures that the stakeholders trust the leaders.
