The Physics of Quantum Computers
Discuss and compare several technologies for building Quantum Computers that scientists around the world are experimenting with (or considering to do experiments with).
Some examples of Quantum Computing technologies are:
· Trapped Ion Quantum Computer
· Superconducting Quantum Computer
· Quantum Dot Computer
· NMR Quantum Computer
· Kane Quantum Computer
· Topological Quantum
Computer Choose any number of technologies (at least 2), find information about them, and discuss them in your report.
For each of the technologies you choose, try to answer the following questions:
· How are 0 and 1 represented?
o e.g. an electron with spin ‘up’ represents a 1 and an electron with spin ‘down’ represents a 0
· How are qubits manipulated?
o e.g. a laser is shining onto the electron and then…
· How does one measure a qubit?
o e.g. a photon will pass through a polarization filter and then…
· How does one prevent decoherence?
o e.g. the computer is kept at a temperature of 0.02 Kelvin and isolated from magnetic fields..
· Who is doing experiments with this technology and where?
o e.g. The university of … is doing experiments with this type of quantum computer.
· What have they achieved so far?
o e.g. they have managed to calculate the prime factors of the number 21
