2500 – 3000 words report on a family business case. The report should be organized into the following sections:
Introduction of the family business
Problem/question definition
Decision criteria & assumptions
Analysis
Options
Preferred alternative with rationale
Justification/Predicted outcome or recommendations
Guidelines and marking criteria:
The report must draw on relevant theories, models and empirical evidence.
The report can also draw on additional information from external sources, including information about industry and other competitors/players.
The assessment will be based on the following criteria:
Definition of key issues: use family business theory to move from symptoms to core issues; use coherent models to identify clusters of is-sues, rather than “laundry list
Analysis: include quantitative and qualitative considerations; consider Family System, Business System and Competitive Context (Industry, Culture); clear assumptions coherent with family business theory and family business case study context
Alternative scenarios: provide clear options, consistent with the family business context and situation; compare alternatives using family business theory and models
Recommendation: fit analysis; justified by family, business & competition considerations; feasible/creative
Implementation: provide a timeline; ensure to answer the following questions: what, how, by whom, when, what if’s
