Order instructions
This report is about exploring, analysing and evaluating in order to develop and assess your research and analytical skills. You can use relevant corporate websites as well as secondary information sources such as company reports, research insights and academic and business articles. You should select either the same company used for the group presentation or alternatively a new internationally orientated company. If selecting the latter the company and scope of the work should be agreed with your seminar leader.
Task
The report should evaluate and critically analyse the issues as detailed below:
- Briefly introduce the company and the scope of the report.
- Identify and analyse the key factors affecting the company at national and international level. The factors should be drawn from macro-economic variables (political, economic, social, technological, legal, environmental) and Yip’s drivers of globalisation. What do you conclude?
- Construct an analysis of the competitive structure of the industry using 5-forces and identify the structural drivers for change. What do you conclude?
- Undertake a stakeholder mapping exercise and draw conclusions on how to manage key stakeholders.
- Evaluate the organisational structure and culture for your chosen organisation and identify the generic strategy employed.
- Based on the above analysis identify what changes the organisation needs to make over the next 5 years and generate relevant recommendations to achieve this.

- You should submit your draft group work by Monday Week 10 for formative feedback.
Assessment Criteria

| 70%+ | Excellent report, all aspects of brief addressed in full, insightful critical analysis throughout. Excellent use of module content and clear evidence of further and additional reading to underpin the analysis. Logical and insightful recommendations included which logically follow from the main body of the report. |
| 60-69% | Very good report, most aspects of brief addressed in full, insightful and for the most part critical analysis throughout. Very good use of module content with evidence of further and additional reading to underpin the analysis. A very good level of insight demonstrated through the development of the recommendations which are clearly informed by the main body of the report. |
| 50-59% | Generally a good report, most aspects of brief addressed with evidence of analysis. Sound use of module content with evidence of further and additional reading to underpin the analysis. Recommendations included which follow, but not always from the main body of the report. |
| 40-49% | A satisfactory report, most aspects of brief addressed but with some omissions. Evidence of limited analysis which is mainly confined to the module content. Recommendations are basic which do not always follow logically from the main body to the report. |
| 30-39% | Little evidence of analysis. Tasks are not adequately addressed with a largely descriptive approach adopted. Recommendations are under developed, requiring further development. |
| <30% | Very poor report with little of substance. |
If any part of the report is found to be plagiarised all members of the group will receive the same penalty – collective responsibility applies here. Therefore you need to work as a team and satisfy yourselves that all parts of the report are original pieces of work, correctly referenced and not cut and pasted from the internet. It would be a big risk to submit a report with your name on without having read the whole report and satisfied yourself that no one else’s part is plagiarised.
