Case Study: You currently work as a Business Success Consultant for a major consulting firm. Your job is to evaluate situations and provide advice to individuals and businesses. A manager of a boutique online retail company is sending one of their staff, Alex, who is their Social Media Officer, for a consultation with you. Alex works from home and his manager believes he needs to improve his productivity, as well as resource and time management skills. Alex really loves his company and his job, which involves creativity and content writing, accuracy, being up-to-date with social media trends and understanding the latest developments in the web space. He works long hours and often works during weekends. Alex rarely takes time off work, although his manager is reminding him about the annual leave load that is accumulating. Alex is also a creative type of person, who thrives working at his own pace, in his own time. He plans ahead a lot, but struggles with the first steps and then following up from there. He is a hard and dedicated worker, but very close to burning himself out. He lets the team down a lot because of the above factors. Alex struggles to pinpoint exactly what he needs to work on, so his manager, via email described to you what some of the obstacles were that needed to be addressed: • Alex doesn’t know how to prioritise daily tasks. • He has no organisation or task management system.
