In this paper, we would like you to explore the relationship between education initiatives and poverty in the United States and/or abroad. We would like you to take up one major education initiative by educators/communities/nonprofits/governments and analyze its impact on socioeconomically marginalized communities. These could be recent or older initiatives. Groups aren’t marginalized only on socioeconomic grounds, but the focus of our course is poverty. Your primary texts would be wide-ranging from individual lesson plans, descriptions of community initiatives, program objectives of a nonprofit, or government policy documents. To determine the implementation and effects you would turn to journal articles such as the American Journal of Education (https://www.journals.uchicago.edu/toc/aje/current), feature articles in reputable magazines or newspapers, documentaries, interviews, etc. We don’t expect you to do field work or carry out a survey to gather primary data. Rather you would use secondary sources to assess and analyze the nature of the impact.
In this assignment, we want you to work with multiple sources. It also requires you to make a claim about the impact of a policy and support your claim with evidence. You will be sourcing information through the use of direct quotes, paraphrase, and summary.
Although it says “1” for “Number of sources/references,” please use as many sources as you want.
