Abstract

Objectives: The objective of this systematic literature review is to determine the current techniques that are used to detect android malware. The main research questions that this study will endeavour to answer are: what are the current techniques for detecting android malware, how these techniques work, what is their success rate, a critical comparison of these techniques, what applications use these techniques, and what type of android malware do they detect?

Method: The systematic review will be conducted over three phases: planning the review, conducting the review and reporting the review. In the first phase, the main research questions are determined, the search terms are identified to discover the existing research work, and the filtering mechanism is established to include or exclude papers identified in our initial search. In the second phase, the research questions are to be answered by reviewing the data identified in phase one. Finally, the conclusion is derived and presented.

Conclusion: The result of the study should help provide an overview of the techniques that are being employed to discover android malware, the different applications which employ these techniques, their success rate in protecting the end-users by detecting the malware. Additionally, the review should help us identify any weaknesses in the current techniques and provide an overview of the future measures that need to be taken to overcome these weaknesses.
