It is an individual assessment task; it is not a group assessment task. How you interact and communicate with others is not only important for this subject, but in the workplace as well. This task is designed to get you thinking about your own communication preferences and styles.

Details of task: . As part of this assignment you are required to complete the four diagnostic tests in the Personality Workbook (the Big Five Locator Questionnaire, the Emotional Intelligence Test, the Social Styles Test, and the Personal Style Inventory (based on Myers-Briggs Type Indicator).

You need to choose at least two of these to discuss in your assignment. Our advice is to use the personality tests to understand your personality as a whole and then pick out specific areas (e.g. Extravert, not so well planned, have high attention to detail) and discuss your strengths and weaknesses, what areas you need to improve, and how you are going to do this.

What form can the assignment come in?

The Assignment can come in one of two forms, a Photographic Essay or a Video.

• Photographic Essay: The world we communicate in is not just words, it is made up of things as well. If you choose to do a photographic essay, we expect to see at least 5 photos and 2,000 – 2,500 words in total. The photos are there to tell the story. If you are a very structured and well planned person, you might have a picture of your diary which shows your colour-coded to-do list. You would then write a paragraph, using theory, about how that influences your communication style and how you interact with others in a group.
• Video: If you are confident with technology you can put together a video which delivers your response to the essay in an innovative fashion. This might be through showing examples of how you communicate with people and then you analysing them afterwards. The video should go for between 8 and 10 minutes. There is no need to use expensive equipment. You can use your phone, digital camera, computer, or GoPro. You will need to upload it to a video sharing site (e.g. YouTube) so your scrum leader can mark it. Provide the URL in the assignment box on Moodle and hit submit.

The essay should address two major components:

• • • Use at least 2 personality tests that we completed as part of MGF1100.
    • Demonstrate a good understanding of your personality based on the test results.
    • Your communication strengths and weaknesses
    • Implications for you in the workplace
    • What areas you need to improve
    • How you are going to improve them (including a plan)

• Style:

• • • Excellent discussion which draws on the literature (minimum 8 journal articles).
    • The photographic essay/video is creative
    • Demonstrates logical thinking and structure
    • Style and structure suitable for the audience
    • High quality, university standard written or verbal expression
