Draw from your experiences with the various assignments and activities we’ve done this semester. What struggles did you face in this class? Why do you think you had these struggles? How did you overcome these struggles? What did you do well in this class? Why do you think you did this well? What do you wish you would have known at the beginning of the semester that you know now? Use specific examples and evidence from your own writing, from texts we have read this semester, including They Say / I Say, and from your own experience to help you with your response. In this case, your thesis will identify the most important thing(s) students will need to know in order to be successful in English 60. The body of your letter will explain these things and why they are important. Your letter will be assessed based on the following criteria:
.Demonstrates a clear understanding of the prompt
.Has a well-crafted thesis that addresses the prompt and shows consideration of the criteria for successful thesis statements we’ve talked about in class
.Makes effective and purposeful use of textual evidence to support its points
.Shows effective integration of quotes and paraphrases from a variety of sources (using the “quotation burger” method)
.Has a clear and logical organization
.Demonstrates a strong awareness of audience and purpose
.Has a conclusion that addresses the “so what?” question
.Demonstrates a consideration of varied sentence structure
.Has been proofread
