Brief subject description
This subject is designed to develop in students a critical understanding of the major theories concerning
organisational behaviour and the role of management in a complex and rapidly changing business
environment. The factors influencing behaviour at work are explored and key themes are analysed
including leadership, group dynamics, conflict resolution, motivation and organisational performance.
Students apply and evaluate different theoretical perspectives to understand behaviour at work and
effectively address contemporary management challenges.

After successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:
A Understand the factors influencing behaviour and the role of management in work
organisations
B Compare different theoretical frameworks for understanding behaviour in work
organisations and the role of motivational assumptions in job design
C Critically evaluate theories of the role of culture in organisations
D Apply knowledge of organizational behaviour theories to developing solutions to
management problems
E Develop written communication skills
