Understanding the multidisciplinary team process is essential for all members of the team. As introduced in Section I, you will have to identify and define the requirements of a student evaluation. Building upon that, you must analyze the activities warranting parental consent and explain how each team member functions, with the ultimate goal of developing an IEP if needed.
Prepare a critical analysis to discuss the following:
- Summarize school activities warranting and not requiring parental informed consent.
- Examine the components of parental informed consent for an evaluation.
- Explain due process when parental informed consent for an evaluation is refused.
- In accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), identify and define the requirements of a student evaluation.
- Indicate the required timeline to complete the evaluation according to IDEA.
- Compare requirements in your state with federal laws pertaining to the evaluation timeline.
- Identify a team member role, and then describe your function within the assessment process of a referred student. What information would you want to obtain? What value would this information possess within the assessment process?
