There are two basic approaches you can take: you can either (1) analyze a fictional utopia like Walkaway OR you can (2) make the case for your own utopian vision of the future by drawing on factual proposals. In either case your central focus will be on “core value”: What (ethical/moral) value should most inform our approach to the future?
To answer this question, you can consider the values a specific vision of the future takes for granted and/or ignore at its own peril. Why should we pursue or reject this vision of the future? What is the most important core value your readers should adopt in order to create a better future than the one we currently seem to be hurtling towards? As with the previous essays, any approach you choose should be informed by a broader (real-world) cultural context: where do we see these values at play today? Where is their absence conspicuous?
