This essay should be comprised entirely of your own ideas and opinions. No research needed.
1.) Pretend that you are teaching Early American Literature next semester. Choose three works and/or authors that you feel absolutely MUST be on the syllabus and provide a solid justification for your choices.
2.) The three works/authors are:
- William Bradford, “Of Plymouth Plantation,”
- Mary Rowlandson, “ A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs.
Mary Rowlandson,”
- Ben Franklin, “The Autobiography”
3.) The paper should be written in the format of a 5 paragraph essay. The introduction should be about the importance of Early American Literature and the impact the authors made during this period. The thesis should be clearly written and be the last sentence in the introduction.
4.) The three paragraphs should have a lead-in sentence to support the thesis. The paragraphs should include ideas and facts to support the lead in sentence.
5) The conclusion should recap the introduction and reword the thesis. It should rephrase key ideas and thoughts about Early American Literature and the three authors and key works.
6) The paper should be well written, thoughtful, smooth transitions, and pass turnitin.com. The writing should be smooth and fluid.
7.) The paper should be a minimum of 3 pages; it can be 3 1/2.
