Often in literature, character relationships change and evolve. Choose one character in The Crucible whose feelings toward another character change during the course of the play. Write an essay in which you explain how the character’s feelings changed, why they changed, and how this change affects the work as a whole.

I NEED SOMEBODY TO REEDIT THIS, ADD MORE TO IT, AND ATTACH QUOTES WITH CITATION.

MY DRAFT:

The main character in The Crucible that has changed towards another character over the course of the play is Elizabeth towards John Proctor. They are a married couple, but things fall apart after his affair with Abigail. Elizabeth becomes bitter, petty, and cold towards John. She believes that he is a cheater and cold. When John tries to kiss her, she makes no attempt to kiss him back and does not give any emotion or affection towards him. He then says to her “You ought to bring some flowers to the house” “It’s winter in here yet.” It shows how cold John felt in the house and he would like to make it warm. That symbolizes that he wants to fix his relationship with his wife. It gets worse in their conversation when Elizabeth tells John to tell the court that Abigail told him that the girls found in the woods playing had nothing to do with witchcraft. He told her that Abigail told him that when they were alone. Elizabeth is then furious because she thinks that he’s not over their old affair. He tells her she has no trust in him and he starts venting. He says “You will not judge me anymore, Elizabeth” He feels like she is judging him constantly. He then says “You forget nothing and forgive nothing.”

Every time John would come home late Elizabeth is overthinking. “What keeps you so long?” She thinks John is always with Abigail which makes Elizabeth very demanding to know where he is at all times. Elizabeth is very honest but her having that reputation caused her husband to be having thoughts that is a fair would be undercover and save him. Elizabeth has a hard time trusting John until he calls Abigail a “whore”. John says that to her when she continues to bother him and he was regretful of the affair. When Elizabeth hears that she believes that he is no longer having an affair with her.

Elizabeth becomes warm to her husband through out the trials. She softens up and shows that she understands her husband very well and ends up forgiving him. She goes far by lying to protect her husband. She does a complete change when she tells John that it is okay not to sign the confession. His respect became more important than her wanting to keep him alive.

That shows how one of the main characters, Elizabeth changed over the course of the play towards her husband John. At first she was very cold and petty after finding out he had an affair with Abigail. Throughout the play she ends up softening up and forgiving him and it was a complete change towards John in the relationship.
