Financing global health initiatives requires partnership of many major dedicated players in the arena and strong political willpower. By the year 2010, the US was spending approximately/over 11 billion dollars annually in supporting various global health initiatives around the world in spite of having many unresolved health issues in the US. The amount spent has continued to increase steadily. The US ranks lowest among developed nations in the world in terms health outcomes, life expectancy and quality of life; there are so many sick unisured people in the US who cannot access quality healthcare, many people below the poverty live and struggling with food insecurity, homelessness is ever increasing, health disparities are ever increasing in the US etc. etc. Yet as a developed nation, proponents of the US spending in funding global health initiatives acknowledge that the US must lead by example but critics see no justifiable reasons for such discrepancies of not adequately focusing on their national problems.
