“Song of Myself” Writing Assignment
ASSIGNED Reading Sections: “Leaves of Grass” Sections 21 AND 23
Write one paragraph in which you analyze HOW your ASSIGNED Reading Sections of the poem “Song of Myself” expand on ONE aspect of his philosophy of how to live. You need a clear thesis (which can be the first sentence of the paragraph) and specific references to the poem. Remember that if you quote multiple lines of the poem, you need to follow the correct format. For example–In the opening lines of his poem, Whitman declares “I celebrate myself,/And what I assume you shall assume/For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you” (1-3). Notice that you should use a forward slash (/) at the end of the lines.
