The key purpose of this module is to prepare students for their 70-day practice placement in the first year of study.This module focuses on a range of core skills linked to those published under the Professional Capabilities Framework (British Association of Social Workers 2018), to include: reflective practice, communication, interviewing, problem solving, and developing personal resilience, challenging, identifying and managing risk. Additionally, the module will engage students with relevant models and theoretical approaches to Social Work practice, the ethics and values required for good practice and service user expectations. The module will invite students to consider what it is to be a Social Work professional and further challenge student to consider how the Social Work values and ethics promoted by BASW link to professional practice particularly when considering the authority entrusted to Social Work practitioners through statutory powers and duties
