Subject of Final Paper: Write a 5-page essay analyzing a 2017-2019 Grammy-nominated song, which displays a direct connection between popular culture and social change. Analyze various aspects of the song’s engagement with current or ongoing cultural or political trends, making clear connections to materials that we’ve covered in this class.
In addition, you may discuss how the track and artist(s) express or inhabit their own sense of authenticity and/or artifice, particularly in how they reflect and interact with popular culture, and/or with their intended market and fan-base.
Your paper must reflect college level writing. Seek assistance at the College writing center, as your grade is dependent on good writing and clear presentation. Papers may be graded on both format and content.
Final Paper Format: Note: 10% of Final Paper will be for proper formatting, footnoting, etc.
1. Your paper must be at least five pages based on a thesis statement(not including appendices), double spaced, 12 point, Times black font (no bold or italic except for emphasis of nouns and titles), unless otherwise indicated by the instructor and end in conclusion.
2. Margins must be between .05″ and 1” all around (the last content page must also reflect this margin requirement at the bottom), bottom margins are measured from the last sentence on the page, not from the page number.
3. If you include lyrics or images, attach them as an appendix. Do not insert them in your content pages.
4. Footnotes, indicating sources, must be in 10-point font, and be single-spaced.
5. Page numbers must be on the bottom right footer of each page except the cover page and the first content page (no page number on cover and first content pages). Therefore the first numbered page (after the cover and first page) would be “2”.
6. Do not have any sub-headings.
7. You must have a cover page for your paper. Your cover page must read as follows: line one: Your name, line two: class name; line three: paper title; line four: assignment due date. This information must be single spaced and centered in the middle of the page. Papers are to be saved as a PDF and uploaded to the class Canvas assignment portal as follows: “yourlastname_pcm_finalpaper.pdf”.
