You read an article in a magazine called “Totally Real Maths that You Should Take
at Face value.” On page 69, you read about a study on heterosexual relationships
on BU’s campus. The participants were asked how many heterosexual partners
they have had with their fellow classmates. In other words the study is limited
to sexual partners students have had with their classmates and does not consider
relationships outside of BU. Assume further that each participant identifies as
either a man or a woman. The study reports that on average, men have 10 sexual
partners and on average women have 5 sexual partners. The study concludes that
BU men have twice as much sex as BU women. Note that there are roughly an
equal number of men and woman in the school
• Represent heterosexual relationships as a graph where an edge connecting two
nodes indicates a sexual relationship. Use Graph theory to Debunk this study.
