The scenario is based on The Fenwick Arms Pub in Lancashire as featured on the TV series

 “Ramsays Kitchen Nightmares”.  You should watch this program as part of your secondary research activities. The business is facing bankruptcy and staff morale is at an all-time low. A rival pub has just opened down the road and the business needs a strategy to turn itself around and beat the competition.

Task 1 (3.4)

You are required to prepare a formal written report which explains and analyses current and future

 market trends in the catering / hospitality industry.

Task 2 (1.1)

You are required to create a plan for the collection of primary and secondary data for the Fenwick Arms

 with justification for your choice of both primary and secondary research.

Task 3 (1.2)

You must present the survey methodology and sampling frame used with justification for your choice

Task 4 (1.3)

In order to carry out your primary research you must design a questionnaire in order to gather

 information from a local public house. (You are permitted to carry out your primary research in small

 teams but must collate, analyse and evaluate the data on an individual basis).

Task 5 (2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 3.1, 3.2)

Once you have gathered all of your primary and secondary research you must analyse this information

 in order to inform your decision making and recommendations to the Fenwick Arms.

a)    create information for decision making by summarising data using representative values

 (mean, median and mode)

b)     analyse the results to draw valid conclusions for the Fenwick Arms

 (mean, median and mode) with synthesis and justification

c)     analyse data using measures of dispersion to inform decision making at the Fenwick Arms  

(standard deviation, stock control)

d)     Calculate and explain how quartiles, percentiles and the correlation coefficient are used to draw

 useful conclusions for the Fenwick Arms

      e)  Produce graphs using spread sheets and draw valid   conclusions based on the information

          derived

     f)  Create trend lines in spread sheet graphs to assist in forecasting for specified business

         information
