You will produce one 2000 word qualitative report on the data provided to you. Please choose from one of the two options below:
- Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis
Your report should be structured as follows:
Personal Reflexivity (Max 50 words)
This should be a brief reflection on how you think your own personal position may have influenced your interpretations of the data.
Analysis
In this section you will report your analysis.
Discussion
In this section you will discuss the findings of your analysis and draw upon theory and/or empirical evidence to support your findings. You will complete this section with your conclusions.

General Criteria for good qualitative analysis
There should be a brief reflection on how you think your own personal position may have influenced your interpretations of the data.
The analysis and discussion should be carefully written and demonstrate a good grasp of the principles of the chosen method.
The analysis should be interpretative rather than descriptive, well-focused and demonstrate methodological competence/skill in its depth and/or breadth.
The analysis should be supported by relevant extracts from the data.
The analysis and/or discussion should relate to the existing literature, theory and/or empirical evidence to support the findings.
There should be clarity and power of description and argument in the analysis and/or discussion.
The discussion should include a conclusion.
Specific criteria for Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis Report
The analysis should be sensitive and focused on the participant’s perspective.
The analysis should be in-depth and clearly focused on the details of particular findings.
Data extracts should support the findings and be representative of the theme/s.
Data extracts should be followed by an interpretative commentary.
Where there is any convergence and divergence or variability in the findings this should be indicated in order to demonstrate the depth and breadth of a theme.
